It’s that time, the 5v5 Summer League is
back for the second year and we plan it being bigger and better than ever.
What Is 5 a side?
It’s something played in many other countries and is used as a development tool
for players to get more touches on the ball, short quick on the ground passing,
and for encouragement of 1v1 skills. In order to help encourage player
development and fun, we are making the league
COACHLESS. Also we are allowing the
players to pick their own teams (up to 9 players a team).
Who can play on a team?
The teams may be comprised of players from your current club, other clubs, or as
well as different ages (ex. 10, 11, and 12 year old players can all play on the
same team). Who a team consists of is completely your own choice. The players
make their own team, make their own subs, make their own team name, and coach
themselves (but not referee themselves, fear not we will have very qualified
referees). Also there will be no standings kept. Our vision is to give the
players a stress free environment that encourages creativity and inventiveness,
emulating that which makes countries such as Brazil so successful.
League/Season Info
The league will be a 6 game season and the team will play either on
Monday/Tuesday (Girls) or Wednesday/Thursday (Boys/Coed) evenings. We filled up
the two day a week schedule last year and we anticipate even more teams this
year. Each game will consists of 2 – 20 minute halves and will begin at 5:00 pm
and end no later than 8:00 pm (sundown) We will start the June 7th and end July
22nd, which allows us 7 weeks to finish games in case of rainouts. One
requirement for players is that they are currently registered with either US
Club Soccer or TN Soccer. If the players are not registered with an
organization we can get them registered but we will need their birth
certificate. Players currently playing club soccer are already registered with
one organization or the other and we will just need their player card number.

Tuesday Games – Girls
Thursday Games - Boys
5 v 5 (4 field players 1 goalie)
Participants must be currently registered with US Club Soccer or TN Soccer 9 players max roster size one referee
40 min Games (2 x 20 min halves)
Kick-ins not throw ins
6 game season no standings
Divisions:
U12 (8/1/97 is the oldest and 8/1/99 is the youngest) Boys and Girls A & B
U14 (8/1/95 is the oldest and 8/1/98 is the youngest) Boys and Girls A & B
High School (8/1/96 is the youngest and 8/1/91 is the oldest) Boys and Girls A & B
Rules:
Game play subs can be made at any time (on the fly)
team must bring a white and a colored jersey (can be pennies)
jerseys do not have to be matching style but need to be matching colors
when the ball is out of bounds it will be a kick in (4 seconds to kick once ball is set)
Keepers can not punt the ball (throw, roll, or set down and play with feet is acceptable)
Disciplinary
red cards carry a one game suspension
two yellows mean a player has to sit out the rest of that game not the next
